The Origin of Rotorua Mud
Since all Wild Ferns products are 100% New Zealand made and the country is well known for its extensive belt of thermal activity, the origin of Rotorua Mud comes from White Island, a live volcano at sea in the Bay of Plenty, and then travels west across Rotorua and the surrounding area, finally diminishing in the active volcanoes of Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu in the Tongariro National Park in the center of the North Island. The mud itself was named after the place Rotorua which is located in an extremely active thermal region with active geysers, boiling mud pools, smoking fumaroles (cracks in the earth’s surface where highly pressurized water or steam is released), hot water springs, and former live volcanoes. Many spas and hot pools are using the same mud for they are renowned for their invigorating and healing properties.
Backed with a long history of the rich properties of the thermal mud, our Wild Ferns Rotorua Mud skin whitening skincare products were extracted from the hot mud pools in Rotorua.
